My friends mother wants another child but she had a problem a can not carry a child even if she conceives. She has the eggs and everything. Is there anyway for me, a 17 year old, to be a surrogate mother for her? I mean i know the people and i live with them so would it be okay? Can i be a surrogate mother at 17 for a friend?
G'day Wa-ya,
Thank you for your question.
It depends on the jurisdiction that you are in as each US state has its own laws. However, surrogates need to be at least 21 and there is a general upper limit of 40.
I would seek advice and then consider it when you turn 21.
Regards
I'm sorry, but no. Though the laws vary by state (some it's entirely illegal), no state law will allow a 17 year old to be a surrogate. And, unless you've given birth to a child already, no clinic will perform the procedure with you as the surrogate. It's a wonderful gesture that you want to do this, but if they do want it to be you, they will have to wait until you are older and have given birth to a child at term. Can i be a surrogate mother at 17 for a friend?
Hi, the clinic that's does the IVF (I presume you are using a fertilized egg of hers and her husband) will require you to be 21. They will also screen you ie ask a million questions. They may still refuse because this would be your first pregnancy, they usually like a womb provider to have had a few children of her own. You need to draw up legal agreements, so you need legal advice.
While what you are offering is a wonderful gift, the pregnancy hormones make you very clucky (natures way of making sure you don't just abandon a baby) so it could be extremely distressing to have to surrender a child you have carried for 9 months inside.
You have a very good, kind and generous heart, all the best!
U might want to wait till ur 18, but I mean, sure u can, but no u shouldn't. It's painful and in the end, you don't get to keep anything.....then again, pretend u took the eggs, and just go clubbing, get drunk, sleep with many men, and have fun ;), just make sure it's of the same race as your friends mother
Don't listen to anyone who said yes..... You do not want to end up in jail... do research, don't just listen to some random people who have access to a computer, it will not hold up in court.
No, in most states you have to be 21.
No. You are a minor.
