You can use your own egg or the other lady's. Most surrogates prefer to use the other woman's egg. They are carrying the baby, but they don't want to be related to the baby. It is much harder to be a surrogate when the child is biologically yours.



Custody in the US goes to the surrogate at birth. As of now, a surrogate can change their mind at birth. You have to sign a contract saying you will give up the baby, but if the baby comes out of you, you can still keep the baby. That is why they do the psychological profile, to make sure you will actually be able to give up the child. I would guess the family could sue the surrogate for costs if she refused to give up the child, but that is it.



You have to have had a previous successful pregnant and pass a panel of bloodtests and a psycological profile to make sure you can handle the stress. Then you can sign up with a company and find a family to work with.

Theres a ton of physical, mental, and emotional testing that has to be done before you can be choosen as a surrogate...sometimes its the surrogates egg that gets used, sometimes the donor egg..the other lady would have custody immediately after birth as this is what the contract would state!
a surrogate mother carries the embryo made of the birth mothers egg and birth fathers sperm.



at birth the child is given to the birth mother the surrogate has no rights unless the birth doesnt want the child

i have always heard that the ladys egg gets used with her hubbys sperm. , but thats for reasons like, no cervix, something wrong with the uterus.



also, i have heard the lady gets the baby first.



i don't know how they get to choose, but its a great idea, isn't it.
There are many ways to go about using a surrogate to get a baby. The surrogate's eggs are never used, it is either the woman who hires the surrogate (ie: the mother) or another donor who is chosen by the mother. The sperm is from the mother's husband if she has one or another donor can be chosen. The baby belongs to the one(s) who have hired the surrogate, usually genetically related to him or her. Upon birth, the surrogate doesn't even need to sign anything, the baby was never hers. You are chosen to be a surrogate mother by the couple/woman/man wanting a child. There are agencies you can apply at in order to find couples wanting your services and visa versa. There are many guidelines you must meet in order to be a surrogate as well. It is not a job for just any woman.
