Why is the money given to surrogate mothers so small?

it seems to me that 10,000 is very small compensation to go thru a pregnacy, delivery and recovery period. and to give up the baby must be very hard. maybe 120,000 would be a better fee at least a person could go to college, fund their other children for college or do something else of real value to her lifeWhy is the money given to surrogate mothers so small?
the reason that the dollar amount is placed so low, is that a higher amount would be considered black market. ten thousand dollars is what has been decided as "up keep" of the mother and child during the pregnancy. food, air conditioning, gas for the doctors appointments, discomfort, temporary loss of figure, etc. if the money was the reason that someone did this, would that be the person that you want to carry your baby?

i mean, it is not the woman's child, but the biological parents, they pay for the procedure and the medical doctors (there a lot more doctors visits because the baby is not a blood relation to the woman carrying the child, there is great risk of her body naturally rejecting it.) the person asking for the highest dollar amount, for me, would be more of a concern for the fact that the woman was of a more selfish nature and then you would have to question whether she really was taking the best possible care your baby, or drinking / smoking, because she is a more concerned with making money . this HAS to bean act of kindness / a need to help others not a profitable business it can't be - it's also against the law to profit from it because it is then deemed "sale".
that's a ridiculous amount that few could pay, but 9 months work for 10,000 is less than minimum wage and that's a 24 hour job and horrendous pain. Definitly worth more but i don't think many get pregnant on purpose it's usually like adoption right so they're lucky to get 10G's.Why is the money given to surrogate mothers so small?
I agree, there is no way i would do that for 10 grand. It would have to be way up there before i done that for anyone.
I totally agree! I thought it was alot more than 10 but it is pretty nice of someone to do that for only 10
It does seem like an awful small amount of money for all the work a woman has to go through to bring a baby into the world. However, I agree with what the person above me said, it has to be a decision the woman makes out of an act of kindness. After two and a half pregnancies (well, one week shy of half of my third...) I know I'd NEVER be a surrogate mother for any price. It's just too much for me because I've been so sick through all of them. However, maybe for a woman who doesn't get quite as sick as me, it might be an easier thing to do.
