It is possible and no, you're not too old.
You will need to undergo candidacy testing. The surgery could have compromised your ovarian function. The reason for the hysterectomy also plays into it - if it was for cancer and you had chemotherapy or radiation therapy, your eggs may no longer be viable. Also, 41 is an advanced age for TTC so even if your ovaries were not affected by the surgery, they are going to produce fewer and lesser quality eggs anyway because of age - but that doesn't mean that you won't produce that one perfect one. It only takes 1.
You might have difficulty finding a clinic willing to do it, though. Since you would be labelled as "advanced maternal age" and there is another person involved - the surrogate, and she is paid a fee over and above any medical expenses - they don't want to waste anyone's time or money. I'm sure there are clinics who would do it though, you'll just need to shop around.
Good luck!
i dont know about the fees but no your not too old! good luck with it :-) xxAbout surrogate mothers?
It is medically possible for you to use your eggs with a surrogate mother, but you will need to talk with your RE to see if it will work in your specific situation. As you have approached and crossed into your 40's, you are more likely to have a child with a birth defect, no matter who carries the child.
Yes, it is legal for a surrogate mother in the United States (with exception of a few states like MI and WA) to accept compensation in return for her services. This compensation is usually $20-40K+, depending on many factors.
