How much should a surrogate mother expect in financial reimbursement in north america?

I am considering doing this for someone, and obviously the financial aspect is not my main driving force behind my desire to help the couple, but it IS an aspect, and i'm just curious. ThanksHow much should a surrogate mother expect in financial reimbursement in north america?
My sister's relative was paid $50,000 the first time and $45,000 the second. In addition, she required the parent(s) to purchase disability and life insurance to protect her family should something go wrong.

It is my understanding that average payments are $30,000 and many states have made paying surrogates anything beyond medical and incidentals illegal. How much should a surrogate mother expect in financial reimbursement in north america?
I think its up to you and the parents to agree on a figure. You need to also take into consideration the medical costs. You definitely want to contact a lawyer to write up the agreement. Even if you trust the family you are helping its always good to have everything written out so there is no confusion. Have you been pregnant before? Remember that its not easy and you'd be sacrificing alot. Its a very generous thing if you are doing it for the right reasons.
