About two months ago a kitten (at least a minth old at the time) came into my family's life. She took to solid cat food immediately, so we never worried about bottle feeding her. But lately she's been wanting to suckle. None of the other older cats will volunteer their nipples and my dog doesn't seem to like the kitten chewing on him. Any ideas?Does anyone know how to build a pacifier/surrogate mother for a kitten?
There are very few things you can do to help poor little kitty adjust to a normal life. I suggest a fuzzy blanket that kitty can desecrate; maybe stick a doll's bottle through a hole in the blanket so kitty can get comfort from the surrogate. Otherwise, plan on getting a doll's bottle and assign someone in the family the job of being kitty's mommy, with the realization that they will be kitty's source of comfort for the duration of kitty's life. Either that, or plan on holding down one of the cats or the dog while kitty gets her comfort on. Good luck!
what you could do is take an old toy cat, remove some of the inner stuffing and put a little bottel with teat ( usually available at pet stores or from your vet)in. but don't do it for too long as your cat seems old enough. try to give her extra cuddles and attention and they also love it if you "Lick" their skin with a very slightly warm face cloth. its just like the mothers tongue. hope that helps.Does anyone know how to build a pacifier/surrogate mother for a kitten?
Our kitten just found a stuffed animal and simply imitated suckling. No nipples on the stuffed animal but it pacified her. She did this on her own. Try putting some treat on a stuffed animal and see the kitten starts to suckle
