Can surrogate mothers use both the egg and sperm from the donors, or just the sperm?

My friend is looking into getting a surrogate mother (she is too small to carry a child on her own) and I was wondering if they only impregnate the surrogate using the sperm, or can they use the fertilized egg from my friend? They're using a sperm donor, but she still wants the child to be "hers". Is that even possible? I don't know much about the matter, and I'm just curious. Can surrogate mothers use both the egg and sperm from the donors, or just the sperm?
Yes - at this point in time, most surrogates use a donor egg and donor sperm so they have no biological relation to the child.

Your friend would need to go through an IVF cycle in the sense that she would take daily medications / injections, have regular ultrasounds and blood work and when the follicles are mature, your friend will be sedated and the eggs will be removed. They will then be fertilized in the lab with the donor sperm and after a few days, the best will be transferred to the uterus of the surrogate.

Depending on where your friend is in the process, she needs to know that all of this is very expensive and that there are no guarantees of success.

Best wishes! Can surrogate mothers use both the egg and sperm from the donors, or just the sperm?
